Data Link Layer Working of OSI Model || Networking Chapter IV OSI Model Part 3 ||

OSI Model - Data Link Layer

#Summary - We will discuss today about datalink layer of OSI Model

# Data Link Layer - Data Link Layer is the second layer of the OSI Model. It manage the data transfer between network layer and physical layer. It receive data from network layer and add header and trailer to the data and passes to physical layer at the sending end.

At the receiving end data link layer receive data from Physical Layer and remove header and trailer from the data and passes data to the network layer.

* Data Link Layer Responsibilities -

a) Error Control & Retransmission - Data Link Layer detect a error and correct them. During Transmission, If a frame is lost or corrupted so data link layer retransmits that frame and also prevents from duplication of frame.

b) MAC Addressing - Data link Layer adds header t the frame which contain the physical address of the Sender/Receiver. It is the identity of the networking devices in a network and actual data transmission done on this physical address. Headers are assigned when the  frame are distributed to the various system within network.

c) Framing - The Data Link Layer organizes the bits into manageable data units called as Frame because during transmission, the value of the bits can change. It is also possible that the received bits by the receiver may be different from the bits sent by the sender.
